The Albany chapter of Rock Voices started with 17 members in 2018 and has grown to 100 members in 2023. Rock Voices (Albany) is under the direction of Mr. Nate Altimari.
In addition to providing spectacular entertainment, Rock Voices also supports the community by showcasing local charities at each concert as determined by a nomination process within the choir. Thanks to choir member, and beloved cousin, C. Michael Hyrny, the Tyler DeMarco Foundation was selected as beneficiary for this years winter concert.
On the evening of Saturday January 14, Tyler DeMarco Foundation attended the concert at Shaker High School Latham, NY. The event offered our foundation the opportunity to answer questions and share our purpose while connecting with wonderful people who shared their kind words and thoughtful donations. Most poignant however, was the interaction we had with four separate and unrelated individuals (two parents, one cousin, and one close family friend) who thoughtfully, tenderly, lovingly, and emotionally, expressed genuine appreciation for the private rooms created by the Tyler DeMarco Foundation at the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center. Each of the four individuals shared their emotional gratitude and appreciation for our accomplishment in creating the rooms because each had personally endured the traumatic and life-altering experience of childhood cancer. The children related to these individuals each experienced the benefit of our private rooms. In addition to their overwhelming appreciation, these kind individuals wanted to clearly convey how vital the role a private room serves when a child (and the family) is battling a cancer diagnosis. These encounters swell our hearts with love, emotion, and tremendous pride, but more importantly, we are filled with relief and happiness for these children and their families because each child had a favorable outcome!
At the end of the evening this wonderful event generated nearly $3,000.00 for our foundation… THANK YOU, ALL!!
Operating a foundation like ours isn’t easy. The personal nature of our foundation wears us down emotionally, and at times, physically; and over the course of 13 years that hasn’t changed. In many ways it has become more difficult. Interactions as described above are unquestionably beautiful, but it doesn’t negate the deep, raw, difficult emotion that continues to haunt us. Yet, we carry on fulfilling the wish of the boy who would “Never Give Up” – Making a Difference for Children with Cancer!
Thank you, for your support!
Much love,
-Tyler DeMarco Foundation
