Generosity, the Catch of the Day!

It’s been ten years since the inaugural Joe Johnson Memorial Bass Tournament was created to honor the much loved husband, father, friend, businessman, race car driver and fisherman who was well known for his kind, honest nature and incredible life skills of fishing and sportsmanship.

The annual memorial bass tournament was created by Joe Johnson’s lifelong friend, Mr. Al Denny and supported by friends, family and other local fishermen who knew, loved and highly respected Joe Johnson for his well-known abilities and integrity. The tournament was created with the blessing of Mr. Johnson’s family to keep Joe’s memory and generous spirit alive and well among the local anglers and the community he loved deeply. Mr. Johnson’s family attends every tournament despite the weather conditions to share in this honor. This was the first tournament in ten years not fraught with cold and rain. On this day, the sun was shinning and so was the ever-growing spirit of generosity.

The Saturday event marked the third year Tyler DeMarco Foundation – for Fighting Childhood Cancer has been invited as the recipient of charitable donations generated by the tournament in loving memory of Mr. Joe Johnson. This successful annual tournament has grown in participant turnout every consecutive year along with the charitable donations it raises – credited to the hard work of Mr. Al Denny et al, the business owners and others who generously support it. In the early morning hours of Saturday October 10, 2020 34 boats launched into the Mohawk river and by early evening had set a record breaking charitable donation of $5,800.00 that was presented to Tyler DeMarco Foundation!
