Saturday October 12th was a wonderful day on the water for the fishermen participating in the 9th Annual Joe Johnson Memorial Bass Tournament. This is now the 2nd year Tyler DeMarco Foundation has been the charitable beneficiary that honors the very-much loved Rotterdam resident, race car driver, fisherman, business owner, friend and family man, Joe Johnson who sadly passed in 2011.
The tournament was created by Mr. Johnson’s longtime friend and fellow fisherman, Al Denny only a few months after Mr. Johnson’s passing. Mr. Denny is credited for growing the success of this tournament every year since its inception.
This year’s event drew a record number of 35 boats comprised of two-person teams. Also on hand was a small contingent of volunteer’s running 50/50 raffles, auctions, food, drinks, prizes & awards, fish weighing and tournament regulation compliance.
On hand at Saturday’s event, as every year, was Joe Johnson’s wife Patricia, their daughters and other family members.
Tyler DeMarco Foundation President & Vice President, Don & Pam DeMarco address the the crowd and shared Tyler’s story. We explained how our foundation came to fruition at Tyler’s urging. We further explained all the accomplishments we have been able to attain since 2010 through public support and events such as the Joe Johnson Memorial. It’s important for people to know that our accomplishments were grown from Tyler’s Wish to Make a difference for children with cancer. Our success in the Fight against Childhood Cancer directly correlates with the outside support we receive. This year’s Joe Johnson Memorial Bass Tournament donated an incredible $3,387.00 to the Tyler DeMarco Foundation.
Tyler DeMarco Foundation wishes to thank Al Denny, the participating fishermen, volunteers, the entire Johnson family and certainly, Mr. Joe Johnson.
THANK YOU ALL!!
