As summer starts to wind down it’s common to see youngsters that are about to enter the 5th grade busy with Mom & Dad as they franticly go from store to store shopping for back-to-school supplies and clothes. In a Gansevoort neighborhood (Saratoga County) on a recent weekend however, there was something a little bit different going on.
Meet Erin Dunne (10), Autumn Enright (10) and Ashlyn Abrami (10). These three young ladies are neighborhood friends and classmates who attend the same elementary school. The young ladies spent the summer planning a fundraising event to raise money for the Tyler DeMarco Foundation. The idea came to Erin Dunne last year who, as a very young girl often heard stories about Tyler from her Grandfather, Grandmother and parents who are longtime, close personal friends of Tyler and his family.
Erin, Autumn and Ashlyn did some brainstorming and decided on the idea to hold a fundraiser in their neighborhood selling home-made lemonade and baked goods. The girls were guided by Erin’s Mom and Grandmother, but the entire fundraiser was planned, organized and executed by the three young friends. In addition to selling their home-made products, the three girls felt it was equally important that each customer get to know Tyler, who he was, what he went through and all about his amazing plan to create private rooms for childhood cancer patients at the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center and funding a cure for Medulloblastoma at St. Jude Children’s Hospital. The girls then created photo-story boards that became an important part of their fundraiser.
At the end of the day the girls raised a total of $328.00. However, due to additional pledges that were promised that total is expected to raise even higher.
Tyler DeMarco Foundation wants to thank Erin, Autumn and Ashlyn for all their hard work and thoughtfulness in putting this fundraiser together, raising money and sharing Tyler and his mission with others. We also want to thank everyone who supported these three wonderful young ladies. The monetary support Tyler DeMarco Foundation receives from events like this allow us to continue Tyler’s Mission …
