The Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center

childrens-hospitalThis is the only hospital of its kind in Upstate New York serving 25 counties and Western New England. During inpatient stays, childhood cancer patients are often paired with other pediatric patients due to the increasing demand for childhood medical services of all kinds. “Room-sharing” for pediatric cancer patients creates hardship and the unnecessary risk of infection due to immunodeficiency caused by harsh cancer treatment therapies.

TIMELINE REPORT – “Private Room Project” – COMPLETED! (01/2015)

July 2010 – Tyler DeMarco Foundation presents our proposal to create a wing of private rooms designed for the specialized needs of pediatric cancer patients.

October 2010 – Albany Med. commits to provide 1, possibly 2 private rooms for pediatric cancer patients located on the general pediatric floor.

March 2013 – Albany Med. embraces our original proposal and announces they will build a new space of specialized private rooms for pediatric cancer patients.

January 2015 – A brand new specialized suite housing 11 large private rooms for pediatric cancer patients (and parents) is completed and placed into service!

January 2015 – With the private room project now complete, the Tyler DeMarco Foundation transitioned to create the Tyler DeMarco Foundation Endowment for “Journeys” Program supporting pediatric cancer patients treated at the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center.

Tyler DeMarco Foundation Endowment for “Journeys” Program

As of January 2015, our mission now includes the Tyler DeMarco Foundation Endowment for “Journeys” Program – an endowment fund  providing palliative care, latest treatment therapies and family centered medicine to pediatric cancer patients treated at the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

stjudelogo-smThis world renown research hospital located in Memphis, Tennessee is widely recognized as “the premiere” childhood cancer research hospital. Tyler spent two months at St. Jude C.R.H. as the first of three pediatric patients participating in a newly opened experimental trial designed in theory, to suppress Medulloblastoma cancer growth. Sadly, this trial did not save Tyler. However, this trial did unlock vital new discoveries about Medulloblastoma, the most common form of childhood brain cancer! Tyler DeMarco Foundation continues this effort by funding St. Jude’s targeted research of Medulloblastoma.
